I work for Hands On Disaster Response (www.hodr.org) as a project director. This statement is overwhelmingly met with confusion and then usually something like: “oh…so you work for FEMA then?”
So to clear the air…no, I don’t work for FEMA, I work for a Non-profit organization dedicated to doing “Good, for Nothing” (get it? …well I like it). Anywho, the easiest way to describe what I/we do is: to provide a platform for volunteers to plug-in to recovery efforts in the wake of natural disasters. We setup a base camp so that people (much like yourselves) can come and volunteer in a community that has been affected and make a difference. There’s no time committment; you can work for a day or for as long as we’re in the area…we’re flexible. Tah Dah! That’s it. I mean, there’s more to it…but for simplicity sake…that’s all she wrote.
So what does that mean…well that means you should go here: www.hodr.org and check out the website and see for yourself. There are tons of photos and other goodies to answer all your questions or you can leave a comment here and I’ll try to answer it as best I can.
